How weather affects our lives
How Weather affects our
When we received this weather project one part of the assignment was to write an essay explaining how weather affects our daily lives. A better question might be how weather doesn’t affect our lives. Weather is the one thing that controls our lives, from the plans we make to what we wear for the day. As Americans we have a tendency to schedule and plan every aspect of our lives, and the fact that we can’t control nature, drives us nuts! Weather reminds us that no matter what happens you just have to suck it up. Weather is like the finale of American Idol, you wait and wait to see if the weather will be to your liking, sometimes weather is the Paula and sometimes the Simon and maybe once in awhile the Randy.
Although we cannot control nature or it’s surprises, man has definitely learned to adapt, and come up with new ways to predict it. Our houses are much better insulated to survive the brutal winters, and are well air conditioned to ease the searing midsummer days. We use helicopters, cameras, and satellites to track the movement of the clouds to try to best forecast the weather for the following day. We have come up with barometers to store in our homes so we can check the weather every minute if we wanted to. We have heating and air conditioning in our cars, so we can ride comfortably, we have recently installed air conditioning in our classrooms, allowing us to study better.
Apart from making our lives more comfortable, it has also had a major impact on our activities and how we pass our time. For example if it to rain unsuspectingly, your plans to play baseball with your friends, have just been canceled. Or if you had plans to host a family barbecue, and it’s starts storming, well obviously you’re going to need to reschedule. Weather also dictates what time of year certain sports need to be played. Some sports are lucky and can be played year round, but others; like baseball, swimming, skiing, and many more all need to be played during specific seasons. At some point all sports can be played can be played indoors and outdoors if the right facilities are prepared. Weather, as well as controlling our activities, also controls where we go. You obviously wouldn’t go to the beach in the middle of winter, and you wouldn’t go skiing in mid-July. Usually all indoor activities/hobbies can be enjoyed all year, but the outdoor ones are tricky.
Weather, is like a dietician. If the food is not good enough to eat, or not in season we can’t eat it. Some years weather might be the fruit-bearing goddess, here to bless us with plentiful amounts of food; some years however, weather might be the demonic god of dryness, depriving us of nature’s candy. A hard class; sometimes you get the material taught and sometimes you don’t. Farmers have, learned and invented machines to imitate nature’s duty. We have come up with sprinklers to water our plants, and food. We have also come up with plows to make the soil softer, making it easier to plant seeds.
So, you can see how weather pretty much controls every aspect of our lives, and NOT our schedules. It controls what we eat, when we do things, what we wear and all in all how we live our lives. So maybe next time you thing your parents are trying to control your life, you can stop and think that we’re controlled by a bigger, more powerful source.
